At the end of the 18th century Geneva was home to a thriving industry in small gold objects, decorated in polychrome enamel. Watchcases were exported throughout Europe and then fitted with movements by local clockmakers, who signed the dials. The Lurasco brothers were no exception; they sold mantel clocks, barometers, thermometers and gold pocket watches in Amsterdam from 1795.
