Depicted here is the dramatic moment when at God’s command Abraham is about to kill his son Isaac. God was putting Abraham’s faith to the test. He passed with flying colours, and an angel intervened just in time to spare the boy. This Bible story is considered a prefiguration of god’s sacrifice of his own son Jesus, whose death on the cross would save mankind from its sins.
