Depicted here is a scene from Bajazet, a play by the 17th-century French writer Jean Racine. This tapestry is part of a series with scenes from operas, comedies and tragedies designed by Coypel in 1748. Six sets were woven in total. This tapestry belongs to the last set. Such series served as decoration for formal rooms, particularly in palaces.
