These dishes belong to a so-called confituurster, or star-shaped sweetmeat set. It was so named because the sweetmeat dishes were arranged in a star pattern around a piece at centre. The painted decoration in various colours was based on Asian porcelain. The Moriaanshooft pottery factory was renowned for its technically advanced and artistically refined tin-glazed earthenware.
