The unknown artist responsible for this statue was a leading sculptor in Utrecht in the early 16th century. This standing, blessing figure of Christ holding a globe is what is known as a Salvator mundi (Saviour of the World). A larger, but less animated version of this statue once stood above the well of the Mariakerk in Utrecht.
