The French designer Jacques Fath frequently experimented with pleating techniques, as is clear to see in the most striking part of this dress: the wide pleated flounce falling over a straight skirt and ending in an upward point at the front. The flounce is gathered with scores of darts at the top, reinforcing the effect of the folds.
