On the rim a pair is embracing, while between them a naked boy tumbles into the bowl. The inside of the bowl is reminiscent of a human skull. The stem is formed by a crouching monster. In this way Adam van Vianen has combined auricular motifs with recognisable subjects. The piece is less absolutely kwab in style than the adjacent 1614 ewer.
