The leaf shape of this small dish was inspired by ko-sometsuke, porcelain produced in China in a great variety of forms in the early 17th century especially for the Japanese market. The decorations on it do not coincide with the leafshape. The Delft painter made them up, basing himself on Asian porcelain.
