Petronella, Countess of Holland, ordered this tympanum for above the entrance to the Benedictine monastery of Egmond-Binnen. She stands at right, her son, Count Dirk VI, at left. Both address the apostle Peter with the words inscribed along the edge: ‘O gate keeper of heaven, let in these faithful multitudes kneeling before you and intercede for them with the King of Heaven.’
