It is not only ‘Lady Luck’ who is the gambler’s enemy. In this card game, the woman on the right pretends to be the partner of the older man in spectacles. In fact, she is in cahoots, and playing footsie, with the elegantly dressed younger man across the table. She secretly holds a mirror over the old man’s shoulder to reveal his cards to her ‘partner in crime’.
