During a journey, the apostle Philip met a court official of the Ethiopian queen Candace, who was reading the Book of Isaiah. He asked Philip to explain a certain passage and the apostle told him about Christ. The man then asked Philip to baptize him. Rembrandt included all sorts of attributes, from a parasol to an extravagant feathered headdress, to emphasize the caravan’s African origin.
