Abraham Receiving the Angels

For Rembrandt 1656 was a turbulent year as he filed for bankruptcy and his possessions were auctioned to pay off creditors. Despite this, Rembrandt continued working and his personal setbacks are not reflected in this print: the encounter between Abraham, God and the angels seems carefree. Rembrandt’s prints were already popular collectors’ items in his day.
