Christ preaches to a small circle of people. While the adults listen with baited breath, in the foreground a child lies drawing in the sand. The gathering is taking too long for him. In the 17th century, this scene was also referred to as ‘Latombisch printje’ or ‘La Petite Tombe’, after the Amsterdam printseller Pieter de la Tombe. Presumably he commissioned or owned the copperplate.
