In the 17th century, the silversmith Johannes Lutma was as famous as a superstar today. Rembrandt portrays him as a ruler in a stately armchair. Next to Lutma is one of his works, a silver drinking bowl. Next to it are tools of his trade, a small sledgehammer and a jar with pounces. In the reversed counterproof, Rembrandt used grey-brown ink to try out a different background.
