Rachel has hidden the household gods she stole from her father, Laban, under her skirt. She convinces him that she cannot possibly stand up because of her period, thereby preventing him from finding the sacred figurines. Jan Pynas lived in Rome from 1605 to 1607. The inscription on this drawing reveals that he was in the Eternal City a second time, in 1617.
