The prophet Elijah asked the widow of Zarephath, who was gathering sticks with her son, for water and bread. Despite being poorly off, she invited Elijah to be a guest in her home. This Bible story from the First Book of Kings was a favourite of Jan and his brother Jacob Pynas. They painted and drew it multiple times.
