The architect Gilles-Marie Oppenord was instrumental in shaping the transition from the austere, classical style of King Louis XIV to the whimsicality of the rococo. In this design both tendencies are combined. This presentation drawing of a gilt-bronze wall-light was doubtless executed for Philippe, duc d’Orléans, the regent for the young Louis XV.
