Withoos is known primarily for flower drawings. Only recently have her depictions of insects become known, and they demonstrate her versatility. The artist captured even the finest detail here, down to the furry scales on the bodies. In select areas she used a viscous medium in addition to water, lending a subtle sheen to the wings and bodies.
