Engelbert, Count of Nassau, was one of the most prominent nobles of the Duchy of Burgundy. That he belonged to the upper echelons is evident from the prestigious chain of the Order of the Golden Fleece around his neck and the gyrfalcon on his hand. Hunting with this bird of prey was an exclusive pastime and largely restricted to the high nobility.
