Neptune, recognizable by his trident and the seahorse, was the mighty god of water and the sea. Heemskerck placed him in the set devoted to the triumph of faith. After all, water plays an essential role in baptism, the moment of initiation in the Christian faith. The threedimensionality of this figure is particularly successful: his right hand really seems to project out of the panel.
