This is the earliest known painting of Post, made on 3 November 1637. At first Johan Maurits wanted to build the new capital on the island of Itamaracá. The group of men, including two enslaved, in the foreground are probably exploring the island. On the hill across the water lies Schoppestad, with on the right Fort Oranje, which can still be visited today.
