After studying at the University of California at Berkeley, New York-born Oscar Maurer opened a photography studio in San Francisco. He became an associate member of Alfred Stieglitz's Photo-Secession and the first California-based photographer to achieve national prominence. The only entrant from California in the first Chicago Camera Club Salon of 1900, Maurer received critical acclaim for his a
