After inheriting the studio of his teacher Giambologna in 1608, Pietro Tacca became court sculptor to the Medici grand dukes and played a critical role in maintaining the preeminence of Florence as the center for bronze casting in Europe during his lifetime. Born in Carrara, where he received his early artistic training in marble, Tacca joined Giambologna's workshop in Florence as a teenager and b
