A Bamberg painter and organist's son, Hanns Lautensack moved to Nuremberg in 1527. He probably studied with a goldsmith, which was common training for a budding printmaker. Lautensack created topographical views of Nuremberg, but he is also known for more fanciful, mood-filled landscapes.
