Irene Hoffman, née Wallbrecht, studied at the Bauhaus school from 1929 until 1933. She learned photography and took courses in the advertising department. After completion of her studies, she opened a studio in Berlin with another Bauhaus alumna, Hannes Schmidt; Hoffman's primary work was in advertising and portrait photography. She briefly did freelance work with László Moholy-Nagy, then emigrate
