This wheel-lock mechanism is engraved with a stag and a hound. Images of "the chase" were obviously popular themes on weapons intended for hunting. The name of the locksmith, Georg Bernardton Hauser, can be seen on the wheel. Engraving, one of the oldest techniques for decorating metal objects, was frequently used to embellish the metal parts of high quality firearms.
