A potter in Athens in the early 400s B.C., Kleophrades signed three of his cups "Kleophrades, the son of Amasis." His father Amasis, also a potter, was presumably successful enough that his son thought it would help his own business to stress the connection. Amasis may well have left his business to Kleophrades, including his kiln and equipment, and trained him as a potter. In antiquity, there was
